The FIA Foundation is an international charity, working closely with grant partners to shape projects and advocate to secure change in policy and practice. Our Strategy 2030 firmly establishes our focus on contributing to achieve the ambitious targets of the United Nations’ Global Goals, in the areas of road traffic injury, air quality, climate action and youth empowerment. Our mission: Design for Life, For People & Planet.

This paper aims to contribute to achieving a ‘safe and healthy journey for every child’. This is a key part of the Habitat III New Urban Agenda, and will contribute to achieving a range of Sustainable Development Goals.

This special document marks the first 20 years of the FIA Foundation.

The FIA Foundation reports on its charitable activities during 2021, including participating in COP26 to argue for cleaner vehicles and investment in zero carbon travel; campaigning for ‘Streets for Life with the United Nations; supporting motor sport safety research and programmes; and providing grants to UNICEF and IFRC to support equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

Launched to coincide with the UN Streets for Life campaign, the FIA Foundation’s new Advocacy Hub, based within the Child Health Initiative, will focus on supporting global, national and city campaigns for 30km/h streets where children and youth live, walk and cycle.

Our 2020 Annual Report, ‘Safe & Green Mobility in a Time of Pandemic’, highlights the charity’s response to COVID-19, including our Solidarity Fund and support for policy efforts to ‘Build Back Better’.

The Manifesto calls for a transformation of urban streets by 2030 into safe, low speed and accessible space that puts people first, encouraging zero carbon walking and cycling, by deploying the ‘Speed Vaccine’: safe footpaths and crossings; protected cycleways; and maximum 30 km/h speed limits anywhere children and traffic mix.

The FIA Foundation’s 2019 Annual Report highlights our campaign for child and adolescent health, support for new clean air initiatives, and research and advocacy for low carbon mobility to address the climate emergency.

Unfinished Journey: The Global Health Response to Children & Road Traffic highlights the gap between evidence on the scale of road traffic’s impact on child and adolescent health and the action.

Published to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Vietnam’s 2007 introduction of a universal helmet law, ‘Head First’ details the decade-long campaign to secure the legislations, and the decade-long implementation effort since.

This report takes London as a case study, focusing on the issue of air pollution from vehicles and exploring the actions and policies in place to enable safe, clean and healthy journeys to school. 

The analysis undertaken in this report focuses on the subset of London’s schools most affected by poor air quality. It presents data for these schools on the issues of deprivation, obesity and physical activity.

This booklet describes priority interventions proven to reduce casualties, calls for new donors to the cause, and sets out the key advocacy initiatives that are building on the legacy of the Make Roads Safe campaign.
