The FIA Foundation offered condolences for the Mandela family at the State Funeral of Winnie Madikizela Mandela on 14 April.

The Foundation has been working closely with Zoleka Mandela, the granddaughter of Nelson and Winnie Mandela and a strong advocate for global road safety over the past seven years. Zoleka Mandela serves as the global ambassador for the Child Health Initiative which is convened by the FIA Foundation.

Deputy Director Avi Silverman represented the FIA Foundation at the State Funeral held in Soweto. He said: “In her global campaigning, her family has been a great source of strength for Zoleka. She has drawn inspiration from the tireless struggle against the tyranny of apartheid which her grandfather and grandmother led. And she is taking the Mandela legacy forward with courage and dignity in her work to protect the vulnerable. It was an honour to have been present at the State Funeral, and at the FIA Foundation we offer our sincere condolences to Zoleka, the Mandela and Madikizela families.”

Tens of thousands of South Africans together with dignitaries from around the world joined the Mandela family and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in an emotional State Funeral ceremony at Orlando Stadium, Soweto.
