Chile launches Think campaign on 17 May
The Automobile Club of Chile (ACCHI) launched the Think campaign at the Ritz Hotel in Santiago on 17 May with the endorsement of government representatives, the traffic police (Carabineros de Chile) and motor sport personalities such as rally pilot Ramón Ibarra who won the national rally championship in 2005.
The Traffic police distributed campaign leaflets at toll stations over a long holiday weekend which saw an estimated 200,000 to 250,000 vehicles pass by.
The campaign team, consisting of staff from the automobile club, the dummy and the traffic police, toured the country to promote the campaign in big shopping malls in the capital city Santiago and a selection of cities in the south and North, showing an FIA Foundation road safety advocacy film on a giant screen to make the people familiar with the subject, explaining the main safety messages of the campaign and on the practical side, demonstrating how to check the condition of tyres with the help of the campaign tyre gauge. The Traffic Police entertained young and old with a puppet show in principle intended for children.
The campaign will also be promoted at a motor show from 19 to 29 October during which 130,000 visitors are expected. A seat belt slide offered for the occasion by the Automobile Club of Columbia will be on display for demonstrations so that people can experience the effect of wearing a seat belt during a collision without getting hurt.
This new film from the FIA Foundation looks at the practical and political steps that need to taken to improve road safety across the world.
