Barrichello launches Hungarian Think campaign
Ferrari driver and FIA Foundation Road Safety Ambassador Rubens Barrichello launched the ‘Think Before You Drive’ campaign in Hungary on Friday, 29 July, in support of the Hungarian automobile club, MAK. He was emphatic in saying that driver’s should not take safety for granted. “We always think it is not going to happen to us – but this is not true and we must be prepared”, said the Brazilian driver. He further added: “I feel really strange without a seatbelt – I hope people start beginning to feel like this too. Seatbelts are essential, people should not start the engine without first putting their seatbelt”.
Barrichello also emphasised the importance of the headrest: “I think people are reasonably aware of the importance of wearing a seatbelt, but I’d really like to highlight the importance of adjusting the headrest. This is something people often ignore! Adjusting the headrest prevents serious neck injuries, and I urge people to consider this!”.
Before leaving the press conference room, Barrichello explained to attending journalists how a simple tyre check can prevent accidents. Using an FIA Foundation / Bridgestone tyre gauge, he demonstrated the importance of sufficient tyre depth and also of adequate tyre pressure.
This new film from the FIA Foundation looks at the practical and political steps that need to taken to improve road safety across the world.
