What do crash test dummies do?

Crash test dummies are used in simulated crash conditions to provide information on what can happen to the occupants of a car during a crash. They have steel skeletons and rubber skin to replicate human bones and skin.

Crash test dummies are fitted with highly technical devices that record the damage caused to the different parts of the anatomy upon impact in simulated crash situations. They play a vital role because when we see the damage caused to the dummies in a crash, what we are really seeing is what would have happened if real people had been involved.

Most importantly, crash test dummies show us the damage that can be caused if we don’t wear a seat belt, use a child restraint or properly adjust our head restraint.
