A new environmental test programme funded by the FIA Foundation has published performance ratings for popular European small cars. The Eco Test programme rates cars for their toxic pollutants and CO2 emissions, providing star ratings. The aim of the Eco Test, which has been devised and managed by the German automobile club ADAC, is to provide consumers with additional information on which to base car purchasing decisions. The results, launched at the ADAC test laboratory in Landsberg, Bavaria on 28th March 2003, also provide useful information on the overall progress of car manufacturers in reducing pollutants.
