President Kikwete endorses the proposal for a Decade of Action for Road Safety
Jakaya Kikwete, President of Tanzania, has become the latest Head of State to endorse the proposal for a Decade of Action for Road Safety.
In a meeting with Make Roads Safe global ambassador Michelle Yeoh and the Patron of the Commission for Global Road Safety, HRH Prince Michael of Kent, in the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam, President Kikwete expressed his support for the call for a UN Decade of Action and added his name to the Make Roads Safe campaign.
President Kikwete said: “I support the proposal for a Decade of Action for Road Safety for Africa and around the world. Millions of lives can be saved globally, but we must act urgently.”
The meeting with the President followed a high level Make Roads Safe Africa conference attended by transport ministers from Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda, as well as the Tanzanian Vice President, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, and more than 300 delegates from across the continent.
