PCFV wins prestigious UN21 award

Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles 

The Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles’ (PCFV) Campaign to Phase Out Leaded Gasoline from Sub-saharan Africa has been awarded the prestigious UN21 award.

The UN 21 award provides recognition to UN staff members for outstanding achievements in improving efficiency. In the PCFV’s case the complete phase out of leaded gasoline in Sub-saharan Africa.

Through its United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Clearing House the Partnership for Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles brought together international organisations including the FIA Foundation, the oil and vehicle industries, national governments, and civil society to successfully address the issue of eliminating leaded gasoline in Sub-Saharan Africa. The objective was met by 1 January 2006. 

Following its success in Sub-saharan Africa, the PCFV has pledged to move forward with a global campaign to phase out leaded gasoline by 2008.
