The FIA Foundation has appointed T. Bella Dinh-Zarr as our new Director of Road Safety.

Dr Dinh-Zarr is a public health and road safety consultant and continues in her role as North American Director of the Make Roads Safe campaign. She was previously National Director of Traffic Safety Policy for the American Automobile Association (AAA) between 2002-06. She studied at La Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso, Chile, and received her PhD in health policy and injury prevention at the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Dinh-Zarr trained with the Cochrane Collaboration Injury Group in London and was a CDC Fellow where, as a member of the Motor Vehicle Team, she received the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary’s Award and the CDC Outstanding Scientific Contribution to Public Health Award. She has been a Research Associate at the Texas Transportation Institute, a Scientist at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and currently serves on several U.S. Transportation Research Board committees. She speaks Spanish and Vietnamese.

David Ward, FIA Foundation Director General, said. “We are delighted to welcome Bella to the FIA Foundation team. She is an immensely qualified, knowledgeable and committed road safety practitioner and she is also adept at the practical work of building political and stakeholder support for road safety interventions and campaigns”.

Bella Dinh-Zarr said: “I have been impressed by the Foundation’s progressive agenda for road safety and its willingness to take on vested interests; from challenging auto makers to improve crash test standards and include life-saving technologies as standard in all vehicles, to pushing international aid donors to prioritize safe road design and the needs of vulnerable road users. I look forward to taking forward this agenda and also continuing my work for the Make Roads Safe campaign”.
