The FIA Foundation expresses its deep regret at the passing of John Large who died in Sydney, Australia on April 25th. John Large was a highly valued member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. He played a very important and active role in the creation of the Foundation in 2001, and was strongly interested in all aspects of the Foundation’s charitable work and system of governance. He served on the Investment Committee to which he made a substantial contribution of both his time and financial expertise in helping to determine and review the charity’s investment strategy and selection of fund managers. Undaunted by the long distances he travelled to attend meetings, his enthusiasm, hard work and commitment to the Foundation was much appreciated by his fellow Trustees and the Foundation’s staff.
John Large was also President of Honour of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, and a long standing member of the FIA World Motor Sport Council. He also played a key role in the establishment of the FIA Institute for Motor Sport Safety and served as its Vice-Chairman. In 2004 he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his 35 years of voluntary service to Australian motor sport. He will be sadly missed by the Foundation’s trustees and staff. The Foundation extends its sincere condolences to his family and many friends in Australia and around the world.
