The FIA Foundation has presented its seat belt toolkit at a meeting of the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations at the United Nations in Geneva.
The UN body, which is responsible for agreeing worldwide technical standards relating to environmental and safety performance of cars, is the originator of widely used seat belt technical regulations. The FIA Foundation’s seat belt toolkit, which was written by experts from the UK’s Transport Research Laboratory, outlines this technical information, as well as providing advice on education and publicity campaigns, and enforcement, to raise seat belt compliance. Saul Billingsley, the Foundation’s Deputy Director General, described some of the campaigns and events that the toolkit and associated campaign materials have been used for in countries including Brazil, Hungary, India, Costa Rica and South Africa.
