20th European Traffic Education Contest

The 20th European Traffic Education Contest took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina from 9-12 September. The event, which was sponsored by the FIA Foundation and organised by the Bosnia and Herzegovina Automobile Club (BIHAMK), brought together children from all over Europe to take part in various activities aimed at testing both their theoretical and practical road safety skills.

Twenty teams were involved in the contest. The young participants were asked to demonstrate their cycling abilities by negotiating wooden posts, stopping quickly on gravel roads and navigating over bumpy and uneven surfaces. In between the practical activities the children were kept busy with practical tests designed to test their knowledge of road signs and their ability to foresee danger and assess difficult situations.

The event was hailed as a great success striking an important balance between fun and educational activities. Encouraged by the positive feedback, its organisers have already begun to plan next year’s competition which, they promise, will include even more “real life scenarios” which are considered an important part of teaching road safety to youngsters.
