The annual meeting of the Partnership for Clean Fuels & Vehicles (PCFV) is meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, to agree strategy for the coming years.

The Partnership, coordinated by UNEP, brings together governments, industry and NGOs, including the FIA Foundation. Its objectives are to promote cleaner fuels and vehicles.

Meeting at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi on 14th December, the Partnership agreed two key objectives: to work for the total phase out of leaded fuel by the end of 2008 and to promote the goal of sulphur content of 50 parts per million or less across the world, with regional strategies to meet the eventual objective.

The FIA Foundation's Deputy Director, Saul Billingsley, attending the meeting,
said: "The PCFV is close to its objective of achieving lead free fuel, although the remaining countries that have not yet begun to phase out leaded fuel include some that will be challenging. There is broad consensus that getting global sulphur content in fuel down to 50 parts per million, or lower, is the next major challenge facing the partnership'.
