Peru has hosted its first International Symposium on Road Safety and Road Safety Education in Lima. The event on 14th -15th April was organised by the Peruvian Ministry for Transport, the National Road Safety Council and the Automobile Club of Peru, together with the Interamerican Federation of Automobile Clubs (FITAC). The Ministers for Transport and Health and the President of the Parliament participated in the event, which was co-funded by the FIA Foundation. The objective of the well-attended symposium was to build awareness of the importance of road safety and to provide a forum to exchange experiences. Examples of European experience were given by representatives of the Spanish Royal Automobile Club, RACE, and the Spanish Directorate General for Traffic (DGT). On the day prior to the conference, representatives of the Automobile Club of Peru, RACE, the Spanish DGT and the FIA Foundation were invited to a special Transport Committee session held at Peru’s Parliament on the importance of road safety and education.
