The FIA Foundation has hosted a high level seminar to discuss the potential of in-car crash recorders for road safety. In-car crash recorders which provide technical data on the causes and effects of road crashes could have a range of uses, including providing fast evaluation of the severity of an accident for health emergency services and providing accident researchers and investigators with a detailed picture of how a crash occurred. Participants at the FIA Foundation seminar included officials from the US, UK, French and Canadian governments and the European Commission, as well as technical experts from insurance bodies and research centres and from the European independent car crash testing programme, Euro NCAP. The seminar was coordinated by the Vehicle Safety Research Centre at Loughborough University.
