The FIA Foundation is supporting calls for a resolution on global road safety to be debated by the United Nations General Assembly. The Ambassador to the UN from Oman, His Excellency Fuad Mubarak Al-Hinai, has tabled a draft resolution entitled ‘Global Road Safety Crisis’, which calls on UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to report to the General Assembly on UN actions on road safety. Developing a more coordinated UN response to road traffic injuries, which kill more than a million people across the world every year, was a central theme of the ‘Sharing Responsibility for Safer Roads’ conference, organised by the FIA Foundation in February 2003, at which Ambassador Al-Hinai presented his case for greater international action.
