UK MSN has put together a top ten of the “most economical” cars on sale in Britain. According to the news service, these cars are now running at around 70 mpg or slightly above. Top performers are the SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive and Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion at 74.3mpg. Others include the MINI Cooper D, (72.4mpg), Skoda Fabia Greenline (68.9mpg) and Fiat Panda 1.3 MultiJet, (65.7mpg). This is an important issue to take into account when choosing a car, although of course, the figures depend very much on the test cycles these cars were subject to. Fuel consumption can vary drastically between urban and motorway driving for example. But nowadays, consumers quite rightly often want to know more about a car’s impact on the environment. The Ecotest –sponsored by FIA Foundation – looks more closely at the environmental impact of over 700 cars, and gives star ratings based on all emissions. Detail of these ratings and a closer look at driving cycles are available at the EcoTest website.
