Environment Ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean have agreed a low sulphur fuel target of 50 parts per million, in line with goals set by the UN Environment Programme’s Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles (PCFV). The agreement follows similar targets set by governments in South and Central America, and the PCFV recommends a timeline of 2010 - 2012 for reaching the target. Meanwhile there are still 16 countries, amongst them Algeria, Uzbekistan and Bosnia-Herzegovina who have yet to adopt fully un-leaded fuel. For most of these countries there really is little excuse for this, and we will be working closely with the PCFV to help encourage those countries to move towards unleaded fuels as soon as possible.
